We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the 3rd week of our summer training program for students from the College of Engineering and Science, held on July 18, 2024, at the College of Sciences building under the support of British Council. This activity, part of the SolAware project’s mission to promote solar energy education, is led by Dr. Omar Abdulwahid and Dr. Salwan Sabry, Dr. Ahmed Suhail, and Dr. Huda Mohammed at the University of Mosul.
Launched on July 1, 2024, under the esteemed patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal al-Din al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, the program has garnered enthusiastic participation from students across multiple departments. This success is largely due to the invaluable support of the British Council, Assistant Professor Dr. Rawaa Qasha, Director of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, Dr. Saba Altaee, Director of the Environmental Research Centre, and Dr. Ahmed Suhail, Head of the Department of Renewable Energies.
Designed by Teesside University under Dr. Maher Al-Greer and, the third week’s training covered solar panel basics, module connections, IV curves, by-pass and blocking diodes, batteries—including types, capacities, life cycles, conditions, connections, and sizing in PV systems. We also explored power electronics, focusing on converters, renewable energy applications, DC-DC topologies, voltage control, inverters, charge controllers, MPPT controllers, and power optimizers.
The fourth week, from July 23 to 25, will be dedicated to hands-on lab sessions where students will gain essential skills for managing and operating solar power systems effectively.
This month-long program blends theoretical knowledge with practical experience to deepen students’ understanding of solar energy and its benefits to society.
