Exciting Research News!

We are thrilled to announce that two joint research papers, co-authored by our team at the University of Mosul and Teesside University, have been accepted for presentation at upcoming IEEE conferences. The first paper, “Low-Cost Solar Powered Real-Time AI-Driven Vehicle for Security Applications”, will be presented this month at IEEE ISSE 2025. The second paper, “Advancing Renewable Microgrid Systems in Mosul: Integration Strategies and Management Solutions”, will be presented at IEEE ISGT 2025 in November. These acceptances highlight the strength of our international collaboration and the global relevance of our research in AI, renewable energy, and smart systems. We are proud to see our work making an impact on such prestigious platforms and look forward to sharing our findings with the wider community.

Solar Training at IEEE IES Workshop-PAC25

We are pleased to share that Dr. Al-Greer, Project PI, was invited to deliver training sessions at the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Workshop-PAC25, held in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop brought together students from across Africa and was excellently organized, with a strong focus on solar energy systems. As part of the program, Dr. Al-Greer presented materials developed through our Solware project. The sessions were met with great interest and positive feedback from students, staff, and industry representatives, who praised the quality and practical relevance of the training resources. This recognition demonstrates that the research, developments, and training materials created by our project are not only impactful locally but are also valued and appreciated on a global scale.

Summer-2025 Student Projects Progress

We are excited to share the progress of our student summer projects, where innovation and sustainability are taking shape. This summer, our talented students at the University of Mosul have begun working on several cutting-edge projects, including: Portable Solar Energy Station: Aimed at creating a reliable, renewable charging solution range of applications. Solar-Powered Smart Car: Integrating solar technology and intelligent control systems to build an efficient, eco-friendly vehicle. Hybrid energy system based on recycled materials for producing electricity. Hybrid-Green Energy Autonomous Vehicle Powered by Solar Energy These projects are a crucial component of the follow-up SOLAWRAE Project, a collaborative initiative between the University of Mosul and Teesside University, generously funded by the British Council. Through this partnership, our students are gaining hands-on experience, applying their knowledge to real-world challenges, and contributing to a sustainable future powered by solar energy. To ensure smooth progress and effective collaboration, both virtual and face-to-face meetings have been held between the students and supervisors.

Summer Training 2025 – University of Mosul

Following the success of last year’s training program, this year the University of Mosul, in collaboration with Teesside University and funded by the British Council, organized another one-month summer training as part of the SolAware Project. The program was designed to benefit a wider range of students, providing them with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed in the field of solar energy technology. This training focused on solar panel technology, PV systems, and energy storage solutions, combining online lectures with face-to-face laboratory sessions to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. This year’s program successfully built upon the achievements of the previous training, enabling an even greater number of students to gain valuable expertise and practical experience in renewable energy technologies. Program Overview The program covered: Fundamentals of solar cell technology and PV system design. Fabrication processes of solar cells (cleaning, lithography, sputtering, wet transfer of CVD graphene). Applications of power electronics in PV systems. Energy storage and battery integration. Practical setup of small- and large-scale solar systems.
