Empowering Future Engineers and Scientists: 2nd Week of the Summer Training in Solar Energy

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the second week of our summer training program for students from the College of Engineering and Science, supported by the British Council. The sessions took place on July 10th and 11th, 2024, at the College of Nursing and the College of Sciences buildings.

This initiative is a key part of the SolAware project’s mission to promote solar energy education and awareness. Our dedicated team members, Dr. Salwan Sabry and Dr. Omar Abdulwahid, have been leading impactful sessions during the second week of the program, held in-person at the University of Mosul. It is noteworthy that the first week of training was conducted online via Zoom, led by Dr. Ahmed Suhail and Dr. Huda Mohammed.

The training program, which began on July 1, 2024, operates under the esteemed patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal al-Din al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul. This initiative has garnered substantial participation from students across various departments within the College of Engineering and Science, thanks to the support of our team director, Assistant Professor Dr. Rawaa Qasha, Director of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, and Dr. Saba Altaee, Director of the Environmental Research Centre at the University of Mosul.

The training materials for the second and third weeks have been meticulously designed by Teesside University under the supervision of Dr. Maher Al-Greer, Director of the project at Teesside University. The second week has covered fundamental and advanced topics related to Photovoltaic (PV) systems, including design steps and load calculations. The upcoming third week will explore Solar Panel Technology, Energy Storage, and the application of power converters and inverters in PV systems. The final week will be dedicated to hands-on lab sessions, where students will gain essential skills for managing and operating solar power systems effectively.

This month-long program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience to deepen students’ understanding of solar energy and its vast benefits to society.

Stay tuned as we continue to empower the next generation of engineers and scientists with the knowledge and skills essential for a sustainable future.
